Making a difference:
Couples Swept Away was one of the first companies in Negril Jamaica that developed a property-wide environmental management system. Recognizing that our business’s operation can have an adverse effect on the environment, Couples Swept Away has implemented stringent mandatory environmental best practices for all departments in the hotel. In keeping with our environmental policy, we invited our suppliers and community members to get involved with the program. Before we purchase any item, it is screened using a product screening method to determine its potential environmental impacts.
The hotel’s preferred suppliers are the local farmers. In addition, at least ninety percent (90%) of our employees are from the local communities surrounding the hotel. Couples Swept Away’s Green Team has adopted two schools, Green Island Primary and Mount Airy Basic. Members of the team go in to each school at least three times per year and teach the children environmental conservation at home and at school. The Green Team has also arranged walk-a-thon to buy the children fans to cool down their classrooms, and organized Christmas Drive for which all team members from the hotel were asked to bring in books, toys, clothing, and tools to give to the local Salvation Army.
Couples Swept Away is an all-inclusive hotel but has made a provision that the local craft vendors can come in every Wednesdays and Fridays to sell their items to the guests on property. The hotel has also spearheaded many costal and reef clean ups in the Negril area.
