Description of the area:
The Shishink Ecological Inn has 37 hectares (91 acres) of which 18 (45) have primary rainforest (Nunkui forest). In the highland part we have 5 km (3 miles) of trails with exotic flowers and fruits where you can appreciate the high diversity of plants and animals.
The Culebrillas River, which originates on natural slopes 20 km (12 miles) away, flows past the inn. Along the way it forms the 18-meter (59-foot) high Azul waterfall, the Uwishint waterfall and the Yagé waterfall (23 m or 75 ft high). The waters fall into beautiful pools where you can enjoy a refreshing dip.
The Inn has:
Available activities:
Adventure, sports
Bird watching
Eco / nature / wildlife
Educational, research, volunteering
Spiritual / religious
Visits to conservation projects
Walking / hiking
How to get there:
We are in the Puerto Quito district, Recinto Puerto Rico at Kilometer 149 on the Calacalí-La Independencia road. From Quito you can take a Trans Esmeralda Company bus to reach Recinto Puerto Rico, then go down the gravel road for 5 km (3 miles).
Making a difference:
Even though it is near some town centers, the Shishink Ecological Inn is a small paradise that has no contamination or noise. Visitors to Shishink can enjoy nature, relax, and de-stress.
We work with the community on medical campaigns and training using workshops focusing on environmental conservation (flora and fauna) to halt indiscriminate tree felling. We also manage our solid and liquid wastes.
General rates:
$$$ -- from $50 to $100.
Rates are per person and include room, board, and guided activities, depending on the number of days you decide to stay at the Inn.
For more information about rates, visit the Web page at www.shishink.ec – or write to doris@shishink.ec or reservas@shishink.ec.
