It is a model of self administration and currently plays an important role in the conservation of the region’s resources with its Wildlife Rescue Center. It has waterfalls, natural swimming holes that are perfect for a dip, and it offers a friendly community atmosphere that invites one to stay and enjoy the forests, rivers, beaches, African palm plantations and friendly locals.

How to get there:

  • Nearest international airport: Aeropuerto Internacional Juan Santamaría, Alajuela.

  • Nearest local/national airport: Quepos, 45 minutes from the Lodge.
  • In automobile:
Take the road to Quepos and continue toward Dominical; 22 south of Quepos, upon crossing the bridge over the Río Savegre, turn left and drive 3.75.

    With public bus:
From San Jose, take a direct bus to Quepos, and from the Quepos Central Market, take a bus to El Silencio (consult schedules).

    Making a difference:

This community has been self administered for more than 35 years and has developed tourism and agricultural project, among others, for the benefit of its members. Also:

  • The lodge runs a community recycling project with students at the local school that consists of raising awareness of the theme and drop-off points for recyclable waste at strategic points.

  • It collaborates with the school in the area of health and with the SEN (a type of community restaurant) in raffles and activities.

  • There is a wildlife rescue center where wounded animals and captive wildlife that has been confiscated in nearby communities are cured and reintegrated.

  • There is an organic farm (vegetables, tubers, papaya, pineapple) and other agricultural production (cheese and milk). This production benefits the local government and community.

  • The lodge provides employment for community members and facilitates cultural exchange when tourists stay in the homes of local families.
  • General rates:

Prices range between $26 and $50.

For more information on rates, write to info@turismoruralcr.com; you can also request information about our “rural packages” in this and other parts of the country.
