Description of the area:
Punta Teonoste is on a virgin beach with clean water on the Pacific coast of Nicaragua. It is a sea turtle nesting site and a place where you can surf. We have a small tropical dry forest reserve where you can walk the trails. The hotel buildings are made of natural renewable materials using systems similar to those used by the indigenous peoples to build their first houses.
You can go on horseback rides and we have a gymnasium available for your use; soon we will have a spa. The Chacocente Wildlife Refuge is 10 km away, which is very well known for its large nesting sea turtle aggregations and hatchling emergences. This is the largest tropical dry forest reserve in the country, with 24,700 acres and several indigenous communities living around it.

How to get there:
We recommend you travel in a high profile vehicle, preferably with four-wheel drive, because you have to travel approx. 28 miles on a gravel road and cross some rivers. During rainy months the rivers swell and the road becomes damaged, making the trip last a little longer than usual; the trip from Managua takes 2 to 3 hours depending on road conditions.
Making a difference:
Our hotel is different from the traditional pattern encountered in Nicaragua. Our main objective is to connect the tourist with nature, which we have achieved through the hotel buildings, subdued illumination, and the absence of televisions and air conditioners in the cabins to help the visitor attain this objective. Once visitors have become connected with nature, they are awed by the beauty of the area and appreciate all that surrounds them. Their senses take in all the happenings around them.
The use of motorized vehicles is not allowed on the property; we have a designated parking area and all activities are carried out on foot. Neither do we allow the use of motorized vehicles on the beach or in the sea, trying to maintain a bond with nature.
In the restaurant we offer only natural products, mostly of local origin; this helps improve the local economy for the population. Similarly, we hire local people preferentially; we have subsidized sports teams of the communities nearby and we have the most sincere intentions of becoming even more involved with our community neighbors, supporting them in their economic development.
We have participated in Rainforest Alliance's Best Management Practices Program and BUN-CA and we are part of the Small Hotel Association of Nicaragua (HOPEN).
