Description of the area:
Our ecological hotel is located on the shores of Atitlán Lake, in the community of San Juan la Laguna; we have 3.5 acres of land that include lookout points, a private dock, swimming and kayaking areas, jacuzzi, sauna, large gardens with native vegetation, medicinal plant garden, and organic farms with coffee, macadamia, avocado and izote (yucca).
In San Juan you can see weaving workshops making use of natural dyes and primitivist artists, visit the local church and the monks. Outside the community we recommend you climb the Las Cristalinas mountains (1 hour), the San Pedro volcano (3 hours), or visit the forests of Panam (5 hours) where endangered species such as horned guans, monkeys, quetzals and ocelots live.

How to get there:
We are 76 km (47 miles) from Quetzaltenango and 175 km (108 miles) from Guatemala City; the highway is paved.
You can also come by boat from Panajachel.
Making a difference:
The eco-hotel is a responsible operation and it has been certified by Green Deal and the Center for the Development of Social Responsibility (CentRarse). All employees are from the Maya-Tzutuhil community. We routinely clean up the area adjacent to Atitlán Lake (100 meters). We do not use any kind of chemical substances, only organic fertilizers.
We support the community, especially the fishers, weavers, and painters, and for this reason we do not have a souvenir shop in the hotel. We urge tourists to buy handicrafts directly from the local providers. We also organize activities such as exhibitions and sales of products, dugout repair, and English classes for local institutions.
