How to get there:
We recommend arriving in Bambú before 3 pm, since you need to board a dugout canoe there and navigate for approximately 90 minutes up river. The boat trip should be arranged ahead of time.
In car, from San José: Take route 32 east to Limón, then turn south toward Bribrí. At the crossroads of Hone Creek, veer to the right and continue to Bribrí. From there, take the road to Shiroles for 9 km, until you reach the pulpería of Bambó – a small store next to the police post. To reach the Yorkin Indian Reservation, you must take a boat from Bambú.
On public bus:
From San José: Buses depart the Terminal del Caribe, in San José (calle central, avenida 11. Transportes Mepe, tel: 2257 8129). Take a bus from San José to Sixaola and buy your ticket ahead of time -- they cost approximately US $9 (April, 2008). Tell the driver that you want to get off in the center of Bribri.
In Bribri, take another bus to Bambú, which leaves from across the street. Buses depart Bribrí at 6 a.m., 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 12 noon, 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. If you wish, you can take a taxi from Bribrí to Bambí for approximately US $15 – the trip takes about 20 minutes.
From Puerto Viejo de Limón (40 minutos) or Cahuita (50 minutos): take a bus bound for Sixaola (these depart from Limón and San José) and get off at Brìbri. These buses pass through every hour starting at 6 a.m.
